SoundSource will also now read presets created by any other applications. With today’s update, SoundSource now saves Audio Unit effects presets in a standard way, so they can be read by other applications which support Audio Units. Prior to now, however, those presets were useful solely with SoundSource. SoundSource has long enabled presets for Audio Unit effects to be saved, for later use. Just give any effect a custom name to make it clear exactly how it’s being used. This is especially helpful for complex setups, or when using multiple effects of the same type. The new audio effect nicknames mean it’s also easy to tell those effects apart. SoundSource makes it easy to add audio effects to any application on the Mac. Whether it's getting your Mac ready for a voice chat (as shown above) or enabling certain audio effects when a specific output device is connected, SoundSource's Shortcuts support makes all sorts of automation possible. Want to automate controls like those found in MacOS’s Sound System Preferences and Audio MIDI Setup app? Then the new Shortcut support in SoundSource is for you. The new Shortcuts actions make it possible to automate the usage of not just SoundSource, but many of the Mac’s audio device settings. With these actions, it's possible to change volume levels for both audio devices and applications, set effects presets, toggle effects processing, and much more. SoundSource now offers over a dozen actions in Shortcuts on MacOS 12 (Monterey). The headline feature in version 5.5 is SoundSource's newfound automation abilities.

A full license is normally priced at $39, but there's a discounted $29 rate available through the end of the month. SoundSource 5 is available as a free full-featured trial, which degrades the quality of its audio adjustments after 20 minutes per launch. Updates for audio effects include an optimized Magic Boost that uses less CPU to provide richer sound, a simplified default view for the pinnable 10-band equalizer, and more. The meters also provide one-click access for quickly muting any of the sources. The new update also adds support for multiple menu meters, letting you optionally see activity for default input and output devices, as well as active apps. Favorited apps will remain in the list permanently.

With per-app audio controls, SoundSource 5 now automatically manages the apps displayed in the list, adding them whenever they are producing audio and removing them when they stop.

SoundSource 5 brings a revamped interface with a streamlined main window that can optionally be made even slimmer with a Compact view, and there's a new menu bar icon that displays a rough gauge of the current volume level of your default output device. Audio effects like equalizers can also be applied on a per-app basis.
